Philipp von Siebold's portable cabinet of curiosities - 2016

My second graduation project was inspired by the scientist and physician Philipp von Siebold. He went to Japan in the nineteenth century to semi-secretly collect objects, information and specimen from this mysterious country that was closed off from most of the world. I made a portable cabinet of curiosities for primary school students from the ages of 9-12 to discover the life of this extraordinary man and the importance of his collection in an interactive but analog way.

This project was nominated for the St. Joostpenning 2016 (photo: Jesse Huiskamp).
